Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean when you transfer a balance?
It’s exactly what it sounds like – it's when a person decides to move their credit card balances from one credit card to another, usually a card with a lower interest rate.
How do I know if a balance transfer is right for me?

If you have a large amount of credit card debt with a high interest rate, you could save a lot of money by transferring it! If you aren’t carrying a large balance, then the Signature card may be more your style.

How do I know how much I should transfer?

Your balance cannot exceed your available credit on the card that is receiving the balance. In other words, if you open a Visa Platinum Card and are approved up to $20,000, then your balance plus the interest that you may be charged must not exceed that $20,000 threshold.

What is a balance transfer fee on a credit card?

This is a crucial question that often gets overlooked. Many cards charge a balance transfer fee, but we don’t! Both the Inspirus Visa Platinum and the Inspirus Visa Signature card have no balance transfer fee.

What types of balances can I transfer?

Depends on the card. For our Visa Platinum card, you can transfer most types of debt: credit card, store card, auto loan, student loan, medical bills, payday loans, and more! Just be sure to stay under your approved credit limit.

Will transferring a balance impact my credit?

A balance transfer does not directly impact your credit. However, it could affect it in the following ways -

Credit Utilization: a balance transfer can change your Credit Utilization, or the amount of your credit that you are currently using. Credit score companies like Experian and Transunion calculate that by dividing the total amount of credit card debt you have by the total amount you have been approved for across all cards. As long as you don’t close your old account, your credit utilization will fall which is a good thing!

New Credit: Each time you open a new credit card or loan account, your credit score will temporarily take a slight dip. This should last for less than a year and, unless you have a major financial event in the near future, this should not be an issue.

What do I need to transfer balances?

All it takes is a couple of pieces of information:

  • The credit card number you would like to transfer balances from
  • The mailing address of your credit card company. For this, we recommend either bringing in a statement or calling your credit card company and asking for the best mailing address to send a check to.
How long does a balance transfer take?

Balance transfers usually take 7 to 10 days. After that, you’re good to go!

*APR = Annual Percentage Rate. Inspirus Visa Signature cardholders are not eligible for this balance consolidation promotion. Eligibility and the non-promotional rate for which you may qualify will be determined by your personal creditworthiness.

**For Balance Transfers: Eligibility and the non-promotional rate for which you may qualify will be determined by your personal creditworthiness. The promotional rate applies to balances transferred to a credit union Visa Platinum credit card during the promotional period between September 1, 2018 and December 15, 2018. The promotion may not be combined with any other offer and does not apply to existing balances on your credit union Visa. Your account must be in good standing. 2.00% APR will apply only to transferred balance amounts and will remain in effect for up to one year from the date of balance transfer. After that, your rate on any remaining transferred balance converts to our regular variable rate, currently 8.75% - 14.75% APR as of October 1, 2018.

When you call, you'll want to have this information handy for each card you'll be transferring balances from: account number, transfer amount, payee, and payment address.

Programs, rates, terms, and conditions are subject to change at any time without notice. Visa Signature card APR is determined based on creditworthiness, and is variable and subject to change. A 1% foreign transaction fee may apply to Platinum cards. A 2.5% fee applies to cash advances applies to both the Visa Platinum and the Visa Signature card.
