EMV Chip Cards

EMV Chip Cards

Big protection in a tiny chip.

Inspirus Visa® debit and credit cards feature an embedded chip that improves security every time you make purchases at chip-activated terminals.

About chip technology

Receive enhanced fraud protection with chip technology. This tiny chip protects you from fraud by creating a one-time use code for each chip transaction. This code is virtually impossible to replicate and helps reduce in-store fraud.

Easy to use. You can simply swipe your card like you do today. However, if a chip-activated terminal is available, insert your card and follow the prompts.

Enjoy global acceptance. More chip-activated terminals are being used by U.S. retailers every year. Whether you check out using chip technology or swipe your card, you can pay with confidence worldwide – wherever Visa cards are accepted.

How does chip technology protect my information?

Every time you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code. This code is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud.

Am I protected against unauthorized charges?

Yes. If your card is ever lost, stolen, or fraudulently used, you’re protected by Visa’s Zero Liability Policy.

Visa’s Zero Liability Policy covers U.S.-issued cards and does not apply to certain commercial card transactions or any transactions not processed by Visa. You must notify your financial institution immediately of any unauthorized use. For specific restrictions, limitations and other details, please consult your friendly credit union.

Where can I use my chip card?

You can use your card at millions of places that accept Visa debit cards, locally and around the world.

Can I still swipe my card to pay?

Yes. If a merchant is not yet chip-activated, simply swipe your card. Keep in mind, you may need to sign for your purchase.

Is my chip card the same as contactless payment (e.g.: PayPass, PayWave)?

No. The chip cards are inserted into a chip-activated terminal, where the chip must make direct contact with the reader in order to complete the transaction. Contactless cards use near-field communication technology.

Will I have to pay any fees to use a chip card?

No. There are no additional fees to use your new card.
